We shall not cease from exploration. And the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and to know the place for the first time. - T.S. Eliot

Best Buy vs. CompUSA

Is arrogance a prerequisite for working at Best Buy?  Wanting to retrieve some files from old zip disks, I stopped by the local Best Buy tonight in Roseville, Minnesota to ask about an external zip drive. Now I know zip disks are a thing of the past, but you would have thought, judging by the reaction I received, that I had asked for directions to the outhouse. Looking down his nose at me, the clerk told me that Best Buy no longer carries zip drives, and neither do the other retail stores, like CompUSA.  My best bet, he said, would be to find a computer shop that carries old computer parts.  Thankfully, knowledge gained from experience had me driving over to CompUSA where, with the help of a very friendly clerk, I found a variety of zip drives. What I want to know is have I just had bad experiences or are all Best Buys staffed with haughty know-it-alls who actually know next to nothing? From now on, even though it is less convenient, I’m going to CompUSA first.

The Joys of Rooming with a Teacher

I have to say there is nothing like living with a teacher.  You get to sample all the virus and bacteria being grown in that petri dish that we call a school.  Just since Christmas, I've sampled the stomach flu, the two week respiratory virus, and acute conjunctivitis (pink eye), and this morning, I had the pleasure of waking up with the signs of another respiratory virus. My whirling head and sore throat indicate that I am indeed lucky.

Spitting Image!

I watched the confirmation hearings for Dr. Rice on c-span, and having just run across Airborne Combat Engineer's blog with it's picture of "Hannibal" from A-Team, I noticed that Senator Dick Lugar from Indiana looks just like "Hannibal."  A spitting image.

Here's the picture I stole off Airborne Combat Engineer's blog:

And here's the picture of Sen. Dick Lugar that I stole off Radio Blogger's blog who got if from the Washington Times.

Do you see it? Wonder if Sen. Lugar would appreciate the comparison?

What I learned in 2004

1.) I have come to the conclusion that brothers do not make good best friends because they end up getting married and then you are suddenly best friendless.  Course what are the odds they will get married in the same summer?  Obviously, not high enough:

2.) Stop every so often to look at life through a wide angle lens.  - I was rather blue thinking about my losses. I pulled out some pictures, and before I knew it had recreated the year.  It didn't seem quite so bad when seen in full. This may become a tradition.
